Cheryl’s Crispy Sugar Kelp

A simple coastal snack packed with flavour and crunch. These Smoked Sugar Kelp Crisps transform fresh sugar kelp into a crisp, savoury treat seasoned with smoked paprika and sea salt. Easy to make and surprisingly moreish, they’re a delicious introduction to cooking with seaweed and celebrating the abundance of our shores. 🌊✨

INGREDIENTS

  • Fresh sugar kelp, finely chopped
  • Light oil (like avocado or olive oil)
  • Smoked paprika
  • A pinch of sea salt

INSTRUCTIONS

  1. Finely chop fresh sugar kelp into small, even pieces.
  2. Toss the kelp pieces in a light coating of oil, then sprinkle with smoked paprika and a pinch of sea salt.
  3. Spread them out on a baking tray lined with parchment.
  4. Bake in a preheated oven at 160–180°C, checking every few minutes and turning them until the kelp is crisp.
  5. Remove when golden and crunchy
