SPRING FORAGING IN MARCH

Spring Wild Food Walk in Ancient Woodland | Seaham

Fresh spring greens and wild flavours beneath the bare branches.

Saturday 13th March 2027 · 12- 3pm · Seaham, County Durham

By mid-March, fresh green shoots are pushing through last year’s leaves. There’s still plenty of light reaching the woodland floor, and it’s a lovely time to slow down and see what’s coming up.

Join Cheryl for a guided wander through ancient woodland in Seaham as we look for some of the first edible plants of spring. We’ll stop to compare leaves and stems, get to know the features that help us tell plants from their lookalikes, and talk about how to gather with care.

Whether you’re brand new to foraging or want to feel more confident with your spring greens, you’ll come away with things to look for on your next walk and simple ideas to try in your kitchen. Cheryl will bring along some wild food tasters, too.

Note
Parking can be difficult, please arrive early. There is a charge for parking.

This walk is not accessible.

Discover the woodland’s wild larder

We’ll see what’s growing in the shadier spots beneath the trees and what’s already coming up where more light reaches the woodland edge. Cheryl will share some of the folklore and traditional uses of the plants we find, along with simple ways to use seasonal greens in everyday cooking.

What we find will depend on the weather and how far the spring growth has come along. Even in the same woodland, there’s something different to notice from one visit to the next.

A taste of the wild

Cheryl will bring a selection of homemade wild food tasters made with ingredients she’s been gathering and preserving. It’s a chance to try some unfamiliar flavours and see how wild ingredients can find their way into the food you already enjoy making at home.

Please let us know about any allergies or dietary requirements when booking.
