AUTUMN FORAGING IN CUMBRIA

LOCATION:

Sunday 23rd August 2026
1-4pm

Around 3 hours.

Discover the rich abundance of autumn in the ancient landscapes of North Cumbria.

As the seasons begin to turn, the countryside offers one of the most exciting times of year for foragers. Hedgerows are heavy with fruits, woodland floors come alive with fungi, and many of our favourite wild edible and medicinal plants are still thriving before winter takes hold.

Join experienced forager Bex for a relaxed and inspiring walk through the beautiful North Cumbrian countryside, where you’ll learn how to safely identify a wide variety of seasonal wild foods, understand their traditional uses, and deepen your connection with the landscape around you.

If conditions are right, this is likely to be a mushroom-rich walk, giving you the opportunity to discover a fascinating range of edible and non-edible fungi. Autumn fungi can never be guaranteed, but after good rainfall this area is often exceptionally rewarding. Alongside the mushrooms, you’ll also explore the edible plants, seeds, berries and roots that make this season so abundant.

We’ll also discover the medicinal gifts of autumn, from vitamin-rich hedgerow fruits to traditional herbal remedies that have been gathered for generations to support us through the colder months.

Whether you’re completely new to foraging or looking to build your confidence, you’ll leave seeing the landscape through entirely new eyes.
