Description

Coastal Path Foraging Walk | Seaham
Sea air, wild flavours and the first stirrings of spring.
Saturday 27th February 2027 · Seaham, County Durham
By late February, the coast is beginning to wake. Fresh green growth pushes through last year’s stems, and familiar paths hold the promise of a new foraging season.
Join Cheryl for a guided wander along Seaham’s coastal path, exploring the edible plants that thrive where land meets sea. With wide skies above and salt on the breeze, we’ll slow down, look closely and discover how much there is to notice before spring really gets going.
Whether you’re completely new to foraging or hoping to build your confidence, this is a chance to get to know the coast through its wild food, seasonal rhythms and stories.
Note
Parking can be difficult, please arrive early. There is a charge for parking.

Discover the coast’s wild larder
Coastal plants grow in a landscape shaped by salt, wind and exposure. Together, we’ll explore what’s appearing along the path and learn how to recognise the useful features that help us identify plants safely.
Cheryl will share ideas for bringing seasonal wild ingredients into your kitchen, alongside the folklore and traditional uses that connect them to generations of gatherers.
Every walk follows the season. What we find will depend on the weather and how far the new growth has progressed, making this an opportunity to learn from the landscape as it is on the day.
A taste of the wild
Cheryl will also bring along a selection of homemade wild food tasters, giving you a chance to discover how foraged ingredients can be transformed into something delicious.
The selection will depend on what she’s been gathering and preserving, with each little taste offering inspiration for your own kitchen. It’s a lovely way to explore unfamiliar flavours and see where your new foraging skills could take you.
Please let us know about any allergies or dietary requirements when booking.

Who is this walk for?
Curious beginners, food lovers and anyone who wants a deeper connection with the natural world. You don’t need any previous foraging experience, just an interest in discovering what grows around you.
We’ll pause regularly to look at plants and talk about our finds. Please contact us before booking if you have any mobility or access requirements so we can discuss whether the route is suitable for you.
Come prepared for the coast
Please wear sturdy footwear with good grip and bring warm layers and waterproofs. Coastal weather can feel much colder than it does inland, and paths may be muddy or slippery in February.
Bring a drink and a notebook if you’d like to record what you learn.
The exact meeting point and joining instructions will be shared after booking.
Join us by the sea
Wrap up warm, breathe in the sea air and discover the wild food growing along our coast as winter begins to loosen its grip.
