Discover the flavours of late autumn on a woodland foraging walk
As the leaves turn and fall, the woods offer a whole new world to explore. Autumn greens, seeds and fungi invite us to look closer and discover what’s growing around us.
Join Wild Roots Foraging tutor Cheryl for a friendly afternoon exploring woodland in the Sunderland area. We’ll slow down, tune into the season and discover the edible and traditionally medicinal plants we encounter along the way.
You’ll learn key identification features, lookalikes to watch out for and how to forage responsibly, alongside ideas for bringing wild ingredients into your kitchen.
We’ll also enjoy a selection of wild food tasters, giving you a taste of just how delicious foraged ingredients can be.

Depending on what’s growing on the day, we’ll explore a selection of:
- Edible autumn greens and woodland plants
- Any remaining berries, nuts and seeds
- Plants with traditional medicinal uses
- Wild ingredients for teas and cooking
- Seasonal fungi, if conditions are right
Cheryl will share identification tips, folklore and traditional uses, alongside practical ideas for enjoying your finds at home. You’ll also sample a selection of prepared wild food tasters to inspire your own kitchen adventures.
No previous experience is needed. Whether you’re taking your first steps into foraging or building on what you already know, come along for an afternoon of fresh air, good company and discoveries you might otherwise walk straight past.
