Discover the wild harvest of autumn beneath ancient trees and open hillsides
As summer begins to fade, the landscape offers one final explosion of abundance.
Golden hedgerows become heavy with berries, seeds ripen in the late sunshine, medicinal roots begin drawing their energy back into the earth, and the first autumn fungi begin to emerge beneath the trees.
Join Wild Roots Foraging tutor Cheryl for a relaxed and inspiring afternoon exploring one of Sunderland’s beautiful wild spaces. Together we’ll slow down, tune into the landscape, and discover the incredible variety of food and medicine growing all around us.
Along the way you’ll learn how to safely identify a wide range of seasonal species, understand their traditional uses, and gain the confidence to begin foraging responsibly yourself.

Depending on what nature provides on the day, we may discover:
- Wild edible berries
- Nuts and seeds
- Autumn greens
- Medicinal plants
- Seasonal mushrooms and fungi
- Tree foods and spices
- Wild herbs for teas and remedies
No two walks are ever the same, and every season brings something new to discover.
Throughout the afternoon Cheryl will also share fascinating folklore, history and practical tips that help reconnect us with the plants that have supported people for thousands of years.
Whether you’re completely new to foraging or already have some experience, you’ll leave with practical knowledge, greater confidence, and a deeper connection to the wild places around you.
