Autumn Wild Food Foraging Walk – Wynyard, Teesside
Sunday 27th September 2026
Discover the wild food and medicine hiding in Wynyard’s autumn landscape.
Join Ruby for a relaxed three-hour foraging walk through beautiful woodland, hedgerows and surrounding wild spaces near Wynyard.
Late September is one of the most exciting times of the foraging year. The landscape is shifting into autumn, bringing an abundance of wild fruits, seeds, nuts and edible plants – with the possibility of fungi beginning to appear too, depending on the weather.
As you wander, Ruby will introduce you to a variety of seasonal species and show you how to identify them safely and confidently. You’ll explore their traditional uses as food and medicine, learn which parts can be gathered at this time of year, and discover simple ways to use your finds at home.
As always, exactly what we find will be led by the season – no two walks are ever quite the same.
What You’ll Learn
During the walk, you’ll discover:
- How to safely identify a range of seasonal wild foods
- Autumn fruits, seeds, nuts and edible plants
- Medicinal species and some of their traditional uses
- Potential edible fungi, if conditions are right
- Important poisonous lookalikes and identification features
- How and when to harvest responsibly
- Simple ideas for preparing and using wild ingredients at home
There’ll be plenty of opportunity to ask questions, take photographs and really get to know the plants and fungi we encounter.
