Spend an autumn afternoon discovering the wild food growing all around you, with seasonal tasters and refreshments along the way.
Join Wild Roots tutor Ruby for a relaxed three-hour autumn foraging walk, exploring the abundance of edible and useful plants, fruits, seeds and fungi that can be found at this incredible time of year.
Autumn is one of our favourite seasons to forage. Hedgerows are heavy with fruits and berries, seeds are ripening and fungi begin appearing across the landscape. It’s a brilliant time to learn, whether you’re completely new to foraging or looking to build on what you already know.
Over three hours, Ruby will help you slow down, look more closely at the landscape and begin recognising the wild foods that have been growing around us all along.

What you’ll learn
As you explore, Ruby will introduce you to a variety of seasonal species and teach you the skills needed to forage safely, confidently and responsibly.
You’ll learn about:
● Seasonal edible plants, fruits, seeds and fungi
● Key identification features and what to look for
● Important poisonous species and potential lookalikes
● How and when to harvest different wild foods
● Delicious ways to use your finds at home
● Sustainable and responsible foraging
● Traditional uses, folklore and stories surrounding some of the species you meet
What we find will always be led by the season and the landscape on the day. No two Wild Roots walks are ever quite the same.
Taste the season
Foraging makes even more sense when you get to taste what can be created from the ingredients you’re learning about.
During the afternoon, you’ll be treated to a selection of homemade wild food tasters and refreshments, giving you inspiration for how wild ingredients can be brought into your own kitchen.
The exact menu will depend on what’s available seasonally, making it another little taste of autumn and the landscape around us.
Who is this walk for?
Everyone is welcome and no previous foraging experience is needed.
This three-hour experience is ideal if you’d like more time to really immerse yourself in foraging, ask questions and build your identification knowledge, while enjoying some wild food along the way.
Come alone, bring a friend or make an afternoon of it with someone you love.
By the end of the walk, we hope you’ll leave with a little more confidence, a head full of new knowledge and a completely different way of looking at the wild spaces around you.
