Around 4 hours.

Discover the rich abundance of autumn in the ancient landscapes of North Cumbria.

Autumn is one of the most exciting times of year to be out foraging.

Woodlands come alive with an astonishing diversity of fungi, from beautiful bracket fungi and colourful waxcaps to some of our finest edible mushrooms. Every walk is different, and no two autumns are ever the same.

Join experienced forager Bex Northman for a relaxed yet information-packed afternoon exploring the woodland in search of seasonal edible and medicinal mushrooms. Whether you’re completely new to fungi or already have some experience, you’ll leave with a much deeper understanding of what you’re looking at and the confidence to continue learning safely.

What you’ll learn

Throughout the walk you’ll discover:

  • How to safely begin identifying edible mushrooms
  • The key features used to identify fungi
  • Which poisonous species to avoid and why
  • Sustainable and responsible harvesting
  • Medicinal fungi and their traditional uses
  • Autumn fruits, nuts and seasonal wild plants growing alongside the mushrooms
  • The fascinating ecology and hidden relationships of woodland fungi

On top of this, all attendees will receive a FREE copy of the ‘Wild Roots’ Good Guide to Foraging’ ebook.

Children under 14 go FREE!

Rather than rushing from mushroom to mushroom, Bex will help you understand how fungi are identified, giving you practical skills you can build on long after the day has finished.

After our walk we’ll gather together to enjoy a warming homemade wild mushroom risotto, freshly prepared using seasonal ingredients—a chance to relax, chat and celebrate the incredible flavours of autumn.

Whether you come for the food, the fungi or simply to spend a beautiful autumn morning immersed in nature, this promises to be a memorable seasonal experience.
